a male friend asked me my policy on paying on dates. generally, I like treating the men I date as much as they treat me. and if the guy I’m seeing is an indebted grad student like me, I am firm about that policy. but I only split when I know that there won’t be a second date; otherwise I slip the waitress my card when I head to the bathroom (men get their panties in a pinch if you insist on paying. it’s a nice gesture, but I don’t let it stop me). lately, though, most of the men I see are either older (and richer) or charming playboys and so I let them treat.
which made him bring up a curious point: “you look like you date men with money.”
there are many ways to interpret that comment and I can’t stop thinking about it. on one hand, I like how guys who are interested in me make an effort; I rarely get the late-night bootycall or the offer to hang out and “watch a movie.” but his comment also carries a negative connotation, one of pretentiousness. maybe I am dressing the role of “trophy wife” but I hate to think I give off a “gold-digger” impression.
love don’t cost a thing.

love the sheer top and long blazer combo. don’t think I could actually wear this AND short shorts but major snaps to girls that do.
….on second thought, swapping the shorts for a mini skirt (+ big smile and a couple of drinks) would make for a killer clubbing outfit.
